The Power of Video Content

Just like fashion and furniture, marketing has trends as well. In 2024, short-form video content is predicted to be one of the trendiest and highest-grossing forms of social content for the year. It’s expected to completely change the way we market for good. But why? Today we’re talking about what short term video content is, why it works, and a few reasons why your business should be doing it.

As the name implies, short-form video content is a video that is anywhere from fifteen to ninety seconds long that is used to highlight products and or engage and interact with users. Video content works because it’s easily digestible and shareable content that feels more engaging to consumers than your typical feed post. It’s also a great way to be a little more creative with your marketing and potentially jump in on some social media trends to have marketing that feels relevant and authentic. If we haven’t convinced you already, here are five more reasons you need to be incorporating video content into your marketing strategy.

1. Video content makes it easier to educate your consumers about your services and products

By recording a video showing off your company's new goods or services it’s not only easier to sit down and film yourself talking about it, it’s also easier and more entertaining for the consumer to consume it! Not only do you not have to make a carousel post with ten different slides talking about your new product or service, a consumer doesn’t have to scroll through all those slides and read about it! A video makes it much more likely for a consumer to actually stick around and learn about what you’re talking about. It can also be easier to explain aspects of a more complicated good or service by talking about it rather than trying to put it into writing where it can get lost in translation.

2. Videos have the influence to make people buy products

You or someone you know has most definitely been influenced to buy something because they saw their favorite Youtuber or Tiktoker talking about their new favorite product that they “can’t live without”.  Even if you’re not partnering with an influencer and filming your own videos about why people should buy your product, a video will perform better than an in feed ad. People like to feel like they’re being talked to rather than marketed to, and a video will help foster a better relationship with your consumers. Which leads us into our next point…

3. Video content builds credibility and authenticity with consumers

Video content not only helps consumers connect with the brand more by getting a more authentic feel for the people who run it, it also helps them see that people genuinely love what you offer! By posting video content like customer testimonials, behind the scenes product content, and even some trial and error product creation, viewers will begin to feel authenticity towards you, trust your brand, and are then more likely to buy your products. Plus, once they’ve purchased something from you, they become free advertisement and will tell other people about you and how much they like what you do.

4. Video content helps boost SEO (search engine optimization)

Video content can increase SEO in a few ways. One way is by keeping people on your page longer. Someone is more likely to watch an introductory video about you on your website than scroll through a whole homepage and read paragraphs about you. The longer someone spends on your page, the more valuable a search engine thinks your content is and will suggest it higher in the algorithm. Search engines also place a higher value on video content, and a website that features it will have better visibility, meaning you show up higher on the search list. Using relevant keywords in video content can also boost SEO in the same way being thoughtful about social captions or headings for a blog post can. By using several keywords in your video content you’ll show up in a wider range of searches.

5. Video content is favored by people using their cellphones

Someone scrolling their For You Page, or watching Youtube on their commute to work is more likely to consume and actually pay attention to your content if it’s in video form. Plus, if someone is already watching your content on their phone, it’s easy for them to close out of the app, open their browser, go to your website, and purchase what you’re offering. Since we’re all addicted to our phones anyway, you might as well make content that can benefit from it.

Remember, if making video content is scary to you, you don’t need to suddenly only create this type of content! Start slowly by doing one video post a month and work up to doing one a week as you begin to feel more comfortable in front of the camera and learn the ropes of video content creation.
