When it comes to the ever changing trends in branding and design, it can be hard to know where to start when it comes to building a website for your company. That’s why today we’re chatting with our head strategist, Cynarah, about essential elements that will pass the test of time.

What makes a good website?

“User experience! If someone can’t easily understand your website they’ll just find someone else. Organization is key to a good user experience. Make sure your website is laid out in a way that addresses your different target audiences and is easily navigable. Have a homepage that clearly states the services you offer, what you do, why someone should buy from you, and have a call to action whether it’s a phone number to call, a video to watch, or a link to an appointment portal, clearly show the customers what they need to do. Lastly, minimize the amount of clicks a user needs to make to find what they need, the more streamlined and clear, the better”

How do you convey personality through a website?

“Make sure you have clear brand guidelines before you start your website, these help establish brand personality and who you are. You need to convey your brand or company's tone and vibe through your website. If you’re going for friendly and approachable your copy and image needs to reflect this. Use more everyday language and colorful colors, make your copy more personal. If you want to be more professional and serious, use more authoritative and conservative images and copy. Use more professional language and stick to a smaller color pallet. Don’t forget images, they’re very important to convey tone.”

What common elements aren’t necessary?

“This is completely a matter of preference. Personally I don’t like things that are too in your face and aggressive like pop-up ads or videos you can’t click out or away from. Don’t hold your user hostage.”
